Those Philadelphia Flyers draft picks continue to impress.

On Monday, Flyers prospect Denver Barkey was named the OHL’s Player of the Week. In just three games this week, the 2023 third-round pick recorded two goals, five assists, and seven points, and accrued a plus/minus rating of plus-five.

The London Knights are undefeated in those three games, and Barkey’s three-assist performance was instrumental in a 10-7 barnburner victory over the Windsor Spitfires. Fellow Philadelphia Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk also racked up some points in that span, scoring one goal, two assists, and three points. Bonk’s goal against the Spitfires was his first of the OHL season.

Overall, Barkey is fourth in the OHL in scoring with 26 points in 18 games. Only the Kitchener Rangers’ trio of Carson Rehkopf (33), Hunter Brzustewicz (32), and Matthew Sop (30) have scored more points thus far.

Denver Barkey Squarely In Philadelphia Flyers’ Future

Barkey’s torrid scoring pace of 1.44 points-per-game has him on track to score 99 points and 42 goals in 68 games. In addition, the future Flyers forward has taken just two penalties so far this season. Despite being a slight 5-foot-9, Barkey’s tenacity on defense and underrated skill on the puck make him a very projectable NHL forward for the future.

Names like Dawson Mercer and Brad Marchand might come to mind. Oh, and there’s that Danny Briere guy that played for the Flyers once upon a time.

If Barkey is to continue developing at this astronomical rate, the Philadelphia Flyers and fans can expect to see him at the NHL level sooner rather than later. The 18-year-old already impressed in training camp and development camp this past summer, and a year or two more of seasoning might be enough to push him over the top.
