Flyers Daily: Corey Perry Waived, Patrick Kane to Red Wings

Philadelphia Flyers

For the third time this season, the Philadelphia Flyers played the Carolina Hurricanes. For the second time, they lost.

And that’s OK – it’s a long season.

The battle of attrition has already begun, with Noah Cates‘ broken foot holding him out for 6-to-8 weeks. That means more opportunities for players like Morgan Frost and Bobby Brink in the short-term and the long-term. That is, unless the Philadelphia Flyers elect to call up another player from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The Flyers will hold a “short” practice Wednesday, per head coach John Tortorella, before turning their attention to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers will likely have a few talking points for their meetup on Wednesday morning, including the power play. Outside of a few moments, this special teams unit has been consistently not-good for the whole first quarter of the season.

Pyotr Kochetkov did not have to make a single save whilst short-handed on Tuesday night.

Philadelphia drew penalties within the first minute of the first and second periods, and instead of gaining momentum, they killed it altogether.

Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago Hockey Now: Well, the Corey Perry saga has come to an unceremonious close. The Chicago Blackhawks put Perry on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination on Tuesday.

No, it didn’t involve a teammate or a teammate’s mom, and GM Kyle Davidson made it a point to shoot that down early in his press conference. The incident with Perry reportedly stems from an incident with a Blackhawks employee prior to the team’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets last week.

In addition, they acquired winger Anthony Beauvillier in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks.

New York Rangers

The New York Rangers are indeed expecting Adam Fox’s return shortly. The superstar defenseman is eligible to be activated from LTIR, and is expected to make his return against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.

Kaapo Kakko suffered a gruesome knee injury Monday night, but is not expected to miss the rest of the season. He and Filip Chytil were placed on LTIR, though Chytil is approaching a return to action as well.

Detroit Red Wings

Detroit Hockey Now: At the time, it seemed like Kakko’s injury set the stage for Patrick Kane‘s return to the Rangers. Instead, Kane signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with the Red Wings on Tuesday.

No. 88 will instead reunite with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat, alongside whom he scored and assisted many goals.

New York Islanders

NYI Hockey Now: With Adam Pelech headed to LTIR, the New York Islanders claimed Mike Reilly on waivers from the Florida Panthers.

Then, they blew a 4-2 lead to the Devils on Tuesday night, losing 5-4 with the go-ahead goal coming with just seconds on the clock.

Boston Bruins

Boston Hockey Now: According to an NHL executive, the Boston Bruins are actively seeking out defensemen on the trade market.

Noah Hanifin has been linked to GM Don Sweeney, but Calgary Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov more accurately fits the bill.

The Philadelphia Flyers, and just about every other team in the NHL, have been linked to him at some point.
