Flyers Prospects
Flyers’ Cutter Gauthier to Represent USA at World Juniors
Team USA released their preliminary 2024 World Junior Championship roster on Monday, and on it includes Philadelphia Flyers prospect Cutter Gauthier. Gauthier, 19, has been plying his trade with Boston College in the NCAA for the last two seasons. This season, he has 12 goals and 19 points in 16 games played.
The No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft was not present at the Flyers Development Camp in the summer, though it was more to do with workload and other technicalities. Gauthier remains unsigned, but could join up with the Philadelphia Flyer in the late spring, depending on how the rest of BC’s season goes.
Other Flyers Miss the Cut
It’s worth noting that two other Flyers prospects did not make the cut for Team USA’s Word Juniors roster. Cole Knuble and Devin Kaplan were both part of the World Juniors camp in the summer, but will not be with Team USA for their December camp. Knuble has scored just one goal and one assist in 16 games with Notre Dame this season. Kaplan, on the other hand, has amassed 10 points in 16 games with Boston University, but also won’t be representing the Philadelphia Flyers at World Juniors.
It’s no slight against them, though, as projected top-three 2024 draft pick Cole Eiserman is also going to miss out. Team USA’s roster currently features 29 players, and they’ll need to get down to 25 by Dec. 17. Team USA’s full preliminary roster can be viewed here.
And while there’s no guarantees, the Philadelphia Flyers can reasonably expect to see Gauthier make the official roster in two weeks’ time. The young forward medaled with Team USA last year, winning bronze in the 2022-23 World Juniors. In that tournament, Gauthier scored 10 points in seven games, placing him third on the team in scoring behind Jimmy Snuggerud (STL, 13 pts) and Logan Cooley (ARI, 14 pts).
The final roster is expected to be announced on Dec. 17.
