Watch: Flyers’ Denver Barkey Makes History for London Knights

Denver Barkey

The Philadelphia Flyers’ kids are going to be alright. Especially those two playing in the OHL.

More specifically, the two playing for the London Knights.

Oliver Bonk has had a great season, as has his partner in crime and fellow Flyers prospect, Denver Barkey. Recording his 100th point of the 2023-24 season with an assist on an Easton Cowan one-timer goal, Barkey became the 14th Knights player to record 100 points in a season since 2000.

So, which other notable Knights players crossed the 100-point threshold since 2000? Patrick Kane, Rob Schremp, Sergei Kostitsyn, Dave Bolland, Corey Perry, Mitch Marner, Max Domi, Christian Dvorak, Sam Gagner, Luke Evangelista, and Matthew Tkachuk.

If you’re Danny Briere and the Flyers, you have to be loving seeing your 2023 third-round pick cementing his name in the history books next to guys like those. All of the names listed above went on to become regulars in the NHL, enjoying success to varying degrees throughout their careers.

Some, like Evangelista, are just getting started. I have a feeling Barkey will be getting started soon, too.

After his milestone assist, the Flyers prospect has 34 goals, 66 assists, and 100 points on the season. His power play helper on Cowan’s goal propelled the Knights to a 4-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

Barkey signed his entry-level contract with the Flyers on March 3, but because it takes effect starting in 2024-25, Barkey will not be eligible to play any professional games in the Flyers organization this season.

If Barkey continues to develop and takes yet another step forward next season, he will likely be a candidate to play some AHL games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Although it is rare, the 18-year-old could certainly make a case for his first taste NHL action as well.
