Bailey’s Daily: Flyers Injuries; Cale Makar Injury Update
In Thursday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
As if things could not get any worse, we have to kick off Thursday with some bad Philadelphia Flyers news.
Center Ryan Poehling, one of the team’s best defensive forwards and leading shot-blockers overall, has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 2. Head coach John Tortorella revealed before Tuesday’s game against Carolina that Poehling needed to deal with a “family situation”, and that Poehling had already been banged up anyways.
As a result, preseason standout forward Anthony Richard, who has 24 games of NHL experience, has been re-called from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and will have to temporarily leave his post in the AHL.
Richard is the Phantoms’ leading scorer this season, amassing four goals, five assists, and nine points in only seven games. Like Poehling, speed is one of the key hallmarks to Richard’s game, so it seems like, at least on paper, he is a stylistic replacement.
Oh, and Richard can play center, a position the Flyers have gotten no production from this season.
NHL News
For Flyers fans hoping the Colorado Avalanche would continue losing and give the Orange and Black a strong draft pick in spite of the recent positive injury updates, I have bad news for you.
Superstar defenseman Cale Makar, injured late in Tuesday night’s game against Seattle, is traveling with the Avalanche to Winnipeg for Thursday night’s game against the Jets.
It is currently unclear as to whether Makar will actually play for the Avalanche on Thursday, but both he and head coach Jared Bednar are cautiously optimistic about the chances of that happening.
A healthy Makar is obviously a huge boon for an Avs team that just got Artturi Lehkonen back from offseason surgery and has only a few more days to wait for Valeri Nichushkin’s return.
