Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: It took a while, but former Flyers’ head coach John Tortorella has a new home. No, it’s not behind a bench. It’s not even up in a front office. Tortorella is returning to the place he called home in the year before he became the Flyers’ head coach.

It’s not the start of the Flyers’ season without a “day-to-day or week-to-week” injury. Well, Cam York could be both. The Flyers’ defenseman is officially on the Injured Reserve to start the season with a lower-body injury, with the earliest possible return being Monday, October 13th – the Flyers’ home opener.

Lastly, the Flyers announced their official roster for 2025 opening night. A few players made the opening night roster for the first time in their careers. A few new faces made the Flyers roster, alongside the group of returning players.

NHL Rumors and News

Sportsnet: Connor McDavid has finally re-signed in Edmonton. The Oilers’ megastar did not command a bank-breaking contract. Nor did he sign a long-term deal. Instead, McDavid and the Oilers agreed on a two-year deal worth $25 million total. McDavids’ (at least) $5.5 million hometown discount allows them the flexibility to improve the team to go win. Here are the details of the deal.

EP: The 2025 NHL Draft was tabbed as a down year. Well, five players made their team’s opening night rosters. Matthew Schaefer (NYI), Michael Misa (SJS), Brady Martin (NASH), Ben Kindell (PIT), and Braeden Cootes (VAN) all made their respective teams. What will they do with their new opportunity?

Puckpedia: Sunday’s waiver wire was filled with some goalies that, well, probably should not be on waivers. The expectation was that at least one, if not multiple, would get claimed. Well, all three cleared waivers, with Cayden Primeau being the only netminder claimed.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Game days are back. That means so are game previews, line predictions, and more. Check out Dan Kingerski’s preview for tonight’s Penguins @ Rangers game to open the season for both Metropolitan rivals.

  1. McDavid is giving the Oilers three years to win the Cup…then he is all but gone to ChiTown or the Big Apple.
