Flyers’ attendance problems: Losing and COVID are factors (+)

Even though it sounded as if there were a few thousand (very loud) fans who made the trip from New York and attended Saturday’s Flyers-Rangers game at the Wells Fargo Center, there were still lots of empty seats.

That’s been a common development during this strange, pandemic-affected season.

A source close to the situation acknowledged the shrinking attendance and that the Philadelphia Flyers’ poor season — they are 13-17-7 and 13 points out of a playoff spot — has played a part.

But he noted another factor.

“We acknowledge that team performance has an impact on attendance – that’s true for any sports team,” said the source, who asked to remain anonymous. “But the attendance dip we’re seeing at Flyers games is also clearly coming from fans with COVID concerns.
