Carchidi: Meet the Flyers’ Biggest Surprise of the Season

Published

on

Sam Ersson, Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have had many young players show growth this season, including Owen Tippett, Noah Cates, Cam York, and Morgan Frost.

Cates did well in a brief stint with the Flyers late last season. The others are former first-round draft picks, so their improvement isn’t exactly shocking.

So I’d put this as the most pleasant surprise of the Flyers’ season: The emergence of goaltender Sam Ersson.

Drafted by then-general manager Ron Hextall in the fifth round in 2018 (No. 143 overall), Ersson has exceeded all expectations.
