Sportsbook: Flyers’ Odds to Make Playoffs are Nearly Impossible

Most Philadelphia Flyers fans, even the most diehard, know making the playoffs is a real reach next season.

Nothing is impossible in sports, but still. The Flyers are on the rebuild, trying piece by piece to strength their roster. They want to be a difficult team to play against. They want a long, big-picture look, with the goal of building a contender.

The process — sorry, Sixers fans — isn’t short. It’s more of a slog than a glide. The Flyers want to show patience, draft wisely, diligently select free agents and also hope for some good luck.

If we know all of this, so do oddsmakers. BetOnline came out with its odds to make the playoffs and, not surprisingly, the Flyers are tied for having the sixth-worst odds to qualify for the postseason.

The Flyers’ odds are 90.9 percent to not make the playoffs, tied with the Blackhawks.

The teams with longer odds to make the playoffs: Anaheim, Montreal and San Jose (98 percent), Columbus (95.2) and Arizona (93.3).

The seven teams with the longest odds were the teams that selected 1-7 in the recent draft. Funny how that works.

Colorado is the only team with a greater than 90 percent chance to make the playoffs, at 90.9. The next three teams with the highest percentage to make the playoffs are Dallas, Edmonton and New Jersey, each at 88.9 percent.

Stanley Cup champion Vegas has a 86.7 percent chance to make the playoffs. Stanley Cup runner-up Florida has a 69.2 percent chance to make the playoffs.
