Good afternoon, Philadelphia Flyers faithful!

If you’ve never ever heard of me before, my name is Jonathan Bailey, and starting today, I’ll be joining Philly Hockey Now as part of the National Hockey Now network to serve you as the Lead Flyers Beat Writer. My journey into Flyers hockey began back in June, when I started as the editor – or “Site Expert” – for Broad Street Buzz in the FanSided network. My first few months there brought Broad Street Buzz its three most successful months of all time, which dates back to June 2010. Now, my goal is to put my boots on the ground, get out there, and bring the very best of Flyers hockey to its dedicated and loyal fans.

Before I started covering hockey – and the Flyers – I was a student at Monmouth University. When I first enrolled in 2019, I had no idea what the future had in store for me, and I certainly did not expect to lose nearly my entire college experience to the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, life has a funny way of working things out. After the pandemic restrictions were mostly lifted, I became more and more involved with the school, serving as a New Student Orientation Leader in 2021 and 2022. I officially started my foray into hockey in the summer of 2022, and then I became the Sports Editor of Monmouth’s The Outlook newspaper a few months later. I followed the street I was on up until my graduation in May, and now I’m here.

If you’ve never read my previous work, one of my favorite things to cover is the Flyers’ farm, and especially the international prospects. Just a few weeks into my fledgling Flyers coverage, Philadelphia was lucky enough to welcome budding Russian superstar Matvei Michkov into the fold. What fortune! Of course, with the team’s 2023-24 season well underway at this point, the prospects will need to take a back seat to the NHL squad, but that doesn’t make them any less important.

Throughout the season, I’ll be providing updates on that, as well as acquiring congruent thoughts from the appropriate Flyers brass. In between, I’ll be bringing the ‘hows’ and the ‘whys’ of the current NHL team, producing and delivering the most engaging, informative, and interesting content possible.

I look forward to getting my feet wet in the coming weeks, and I can’t wait to meet you all for the first time, be it digitally or in person at Wells Fargo Center. In the meantime, you can follow me on X (formerly Twitter) @ByJonBailey.
