Matvei Michkov on leaving Russia early: ‘I don’t know’
Good news for the Philadelphia Flyers and Flyers fans: There is a possibility Matvei Michkov will leave Russia early, if only because he isn’t sure that there isn’t a possibility.
In an interview with MatchTV’s Pavel Lysenkov, Michkov discussed a wide range of different topics, including Connor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini, his Michigan attempt against Magnitogorsk, and perhaps most importantly, his current contract in the KHL. When asked by Lysenkov if there was any chance he would leave for the NHL earlier than 2026, Michkov responded (roughly translated), “Honestly, I’m not ready to answer these questions yet. Because I don’t know. Yes, I have a valid contract with SKA. Therefore, all its requirements must be observed.”
So… yeah. Essentially, Michkov is playing the politician and avoiding giving a direct answer, instead deferring to the fact that he has a contract that has to be honored. It’s not a yes, but most importantly for the Flyers and Flyers fans, it’s not a no either. Later in the interview, Michkov also acknowledged the Flyers’ fans and Philly media covering him (that’s us!).
Lysenkov asked the 19-year-old whether he sees how Flyers fans react to his latest highlights and how they talk about him on social media. Michkov answered, “Honestly, lately I got out of these social networks. I try to spend more time without a phone. But apparently, fans are watching and writing, that’s understandable.”
Speaking of the NHL, Michkov didn’t offer much on comparisons with Bedard or how he would fare in the NHL had he played there this season, but was careful to note that “Whatever league I perform in, I do not like to lose.” Whether AHL or NHL, the future Flyers star only cares about winning.

The Flyers should work to get him out at the earliest opportunity. I could easily see Putin grabbing him for military service when his contract ends. Do NOT trust the Russians!
He can’t!!, cause new rule would make it that by time he is done with 5yr mandatory auto resign and not finishing current contract he would be pushing 30!!!. I’ll explain since it helps when you have a family member who work in Ministry of Sports and Entertainment
Contract: 2022-26
New rule: Prospect players CANT leave the country to play abroad. Once they sign with KHL they are required to complete contract in full! (5yrs) if player leaves (AWOL) they are to immediately serve years left on current contract and 5yr mandatory extension.
Belushya Guba Military Prison/Training
So if Michkov left in 2025, he would serve 6yrs in same place as Ivan Fedotov. 26yr old by time he arrives in Philly.
New rule doesn’t apply to:
anyone over 21
Dual citizenship holders
Born outside of 🇧🇾🇷🇺 (including 🇰🇿😂)
That didnt help at all and i dont understand how you are getting to age 26 or age 30 his contract is up in what 2025 or 2026 he is 19 now so even was 2026 that age 21 but are you saying if he was to leave early for nhl he would get penalized or sum n get 5 yrs added on? Cause that would be age 26 n make a little sence but the thing i dont understand you know the flyers would know this so if they said ya come now your on the team they would know that even if that is a rule it wouldent touch him in America cause if it could touch him then there is no way the flyers would let him come that would be retarted sure leave ur russian team n nhl wont let you play here till u ho back n do the rest of ur contract plus 5 more yrs so im sure the only possable way would b a buyout of some kind or he will have to finish his time but by age 21 he will b in orange and black barring injuries so idk > may be lost but none of that made sence to me
Of course when the time comes….perhaps $$$$$$$ will come into play
All hot air until He officially joins the Flyers! I say now or sooner!
