We have officially cycled back to a rumor that was first circulated back in early December. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman (and Jeff Marek!), teams are again calling the Philadelphia Flyers about trading for Nick Seeler and Sean Walker as a pair.

Appearing on Sportsnet’s “Saturday Headlines“, Friedman dropped some of the latest news on a few teams expected to be active for the NHL trade deadline. The Flyers, obviously, are one of them.

“There are teams that have contacted the Flyers about both Nick Seeler and Sean Walker as a pair,” Friedman shared. “They’ve been very good together this year. The Flyers are weighing whether or not to sign or trade them. I believe at least two teams, according to Jeff, have asked about acquiring them as a pair.”

Together, Seeler and Walker have a cap hit of just over $3 million ($3.425 million, to be exact). The Florida Panthers and the Winnipeg Jets are two heavyweights that can afford both players on their books without having to dump money. If we’re factoring in LTIR users, teams like the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Tampa Bay Lightning would also be fits.

One potential strike against Tampa Bay is their lack of draft picks; they don’t have a first or second-round pick in 2024, and they don’t have a first-round pick in 2025, either.

We postulated some Flyers trade possibilities with the Jets earlier in the week, as Winnipeg has a horde of solid forward prospects to choose from.

The Wild is an interesting case because they’ve managed to claw back to within a game of the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference. They have almost nothing on defense behind Jonas Brodin and Brock Faber now that Jared Spurgeon’s season is over. They’re also expected to bring over Marat Khusnutdinov, Matvei Michkov‘s teammate and linemate with HC Sochi.

I expect we’ll get more clarity in the coming days or weeks, but it’s not rocket science to reasonably assume which teams are most in the market for these two Flyers defensemen.
