Here’s Why You Can Buy a Claude Giroux Colorado Avalanche Jersey
In 2022, Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was on the trading block. It was no surprise.
The trade market reportedly was between Colorado and Florida. Colorado was Giroux’s first choice, according to Colorado Hockey Now.
That deal never worked out. Giroux was traded to Florida in March 2022.
But, the Avalanche was prepared. Colorado had two Giroux home jerseys made. Colorado has the sweaters ready — with his name and his familiar No. 28 — to present to Giroux at an introductory news conference when the trade to the Avalanche was finalized.
Someone in Colorado must have thought the Giroux deal was close to happening.
The Colorado Avalanche are auctioning off a bunch of jerseys in support of @KS_Charities. Among them are two Claude Giroux jerseys that were presumably made for if they got him instead of Florida at the 2021/22 trade deadline. That'd be a crazy convo piece https://t.co/T56f3LA9uh pic.twitter.com/zV2rzeSqwV

Now, according to Jeff Veillette, a staff writer at Canada Sports Betting, the two Giroux jerseys are being auctioned off to benefit Colorado owner Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Sports Charities.
We just checked, and the current bid for one Giroux jersey was $350 and the other was $301. There still is time to put a bid in — click here. A Giroux Colorado jersey would be quite a unique collectible to have.
If you’re feeling flush, the current bid on an Alexandar Georgiev back-up goalie mask is $3,850.
Colorado, without Giroux, won the Stanley Cup in 2022. Giroux played 18 regular-season games and 10 playoff games in Florida in 2022. He went to Ottawa on a three-year, free-agent deal this past season.
He scored 35 goals and 44 assists (79 points) in 82 games for the Senators. The Panthers went to the Stanley Cup finals, losing to Vegas in six games.
The Flyers received Owen Tippett, a first-round pick in 2024 and a third-round pick in 2023 for Giroux, forward prospects Connor Bunnaman and German Rubtsov, and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.
