Top Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Egor Zavragin made his KHL debut for HK Sochi on Monday, making a 53-minute relief appearance in a 5-4 loss to Vityaz Moscow Region.

Zavragin, 19, took the ice for Sochi just 5:42 into the contest after Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Sergei Ivanov was given the hook for allowing three goals on seven shots. Zavragin made 29 saves on 31 shots in his KHL debut, giving him a .935 save percentage in 53:29 of ice time.

Flyers fans may recall that this is the same Sochi team that Matvei Michkov starred on for the last two seasons. Michkov, of course, is now officially a Flyers player.

NHL legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Sergei Zubov is the new Sochi head coach, tasked with developing Ivanov, Zavragin, and the rest of the group.

Zavragin was drafted 87th overall by the Flyers in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft and is considered by some to be the team’s best goalie prospect, ahead of draft classmate Carson Bjarnason and KHL standout Alexei Kolosov.

Despite his young age, Zavragin appears destined for a full-time role in the KHL with Sochi as he continues his development at rocket speed.

After posting a 13-1-0 record, a .943 save percentage, and three shutouts in 17 VHL appearances with Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk last season, Zavragin won VHL Best Rookie and finished with the best save percentage in the VHL.

The 19-year-old Russian starlet remains on the Flyers’ reserve list without an entry-level contract.
