Bailey’s Daily: Kolosov Ditches Flyers; Dawson Mercer Contract Close
In Wednesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.
Flyers News
We received confirmation Tuesday, after a dramatic NHL offseason, that Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Alexei Kolosov would not be joining the organization for the start of training camp. Kolosov, 22, was left off the training camp roster, though Flyers general manager Danny Briere is holding out hope that the Belarusian changes his mind at some point.
“We hope that he changes his mind and decides to come, but it’s not looking like it at this point,” Briere explained. “It is what it is. We have to move on.”
Added Briere: “I think on his end, it’s more about he wants to be guaranteed a spot in the NHL. If not, he prefers to stay over there, and that’s not the way we see it.”
In other Flyers goalie prospect news, HC Sochi netminder Egor Zavragin picked up his first career KHL win at the age of 19 on Monday, turning aside 37 of the 40 shots he faced to the tune of a.925 save percentage.
Considering the quality of team he’s playing for, Zavragin is looking like an early steal for the Flyers.
NHL News
According to some reports, the New Jersey Devils and young standout forward Dawson Mercer are creeping closer to a new contract, with the 22-year-old purportedly on the receiving end of two- and three-year contract offers.
The Devils currently have $4.976 million in cap space to work with, according to PuckPedia, so salary shouldn’t be too big of an issue in the short term. The Mercer contract should be of note to the Flyers and fans, given that Tyson Foerster will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
With veterans set to report to camp tomorrow, I'm hearing there's been progress made between the #NJDevils and Dawson Mercer on an extension.

Depending on how his 2024-25 season goes, Foerster could be earning a similar paycheck to Mercer in 2025.
