Flyers legend Bernie Parent, shown with his wife, Gini, will help a Downingtown school on Wednesday.

Bernie Parent, the best goalie in the Philadelphia Flyers’ history, is also one of the greatest people on the planet.

Always giving back to the community. Always making time for others.

On Wednesday, Parent — who turned 78 on Monday — will make one of his countless appearances. He will visit Beaver Creek Elementary School in Downingtown, helping a literacy event from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Parent will read selected books to the students, sign autographs, and speak about the importance of reading.

On the ice, he spent 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, leading them to consecutive Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. A Hockey Hall of Famer, he won the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding player in the playoffs, in both of those seasons.

The Flyers are still searching for their first Cup since 1975.
