In Wednesday’s edition of Bailey’s Daily, we’ll be talking the latest Philadelphia Flyers news, NHL news, stories, highlights, and more from the last day.

Flyers News

Philadelphia Flyers prospects were the talk of the town on social media on Tuesday, and for good reason. After all, those are the guys who are meant to be supplementing Matvei Michkov in this Flyers rebuild, so development is important.

I have focused on some of these players extensively in the past, including heading to Allentown to produce an Emil Andrae scouting report (for subscribers only!) after a Calder Cup playoff game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and interpreting assistant GM Brent Flahr’s remarks on Alex Bump, a promising late-round pick threatening for an NHL roster spot already.

When I interviewed Danny Briere a few months ago, he laughed at but agreed with my suggestion that Andrae has a little bit of Kimmo Timonen him as a small, pitbull-type defenseman who has plenty of offense in his game.

As for Bump, I don’t know exactly how high his ceiling is yet without seeing him much, but he strikes me as a Jason Zucker type. A good, prototypical support winger with average size and good offensive instincts. For a fifth-round pick, I think the Flyers would love it if he became a 20- or 30-goal scorer like Zucker.

We’ll be talking about more Flyers prospects with the Rookie Showcase and training camp coming up, but to add to Tuesday’s conversation, those are two of my favorites right now.

NHL News

On the heels of a Stanley Cup Final loss to the Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers superstar center Leon Draisaitl inked an eight-year, $112 million ($14 million AAV) contract that ties him down in Alberta until 2033, when he’s 37 years old.

His teammate, Connor McDavid, will be eligible to extend in Edmonton on July 1, 2025, and Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner is already eligible to sign a new contract.

Marner already makes $10.903 million, and McDavid is sitting at a cool $12.5 million annually. We’re going to be seeing some crazy numbers start to get thrown around in NHL free agency markets in short order.

As for Draisaitl and his agent, Andy Scott, that’s the largest active contract in the NHL and some tidy business from Scott. It’s also worth noting that Scott represents Mikko Rantanen and Patrik Laine.

Would you believe me if I told you Scott negotiated the five-year, $25.5 million contract Rasmus Ristolainen signed with the Flyers in 2022?

Oilers now going on 10 years with no rings with McDavid/Draisaitl together…..may go longer now since they have will have little to no cap space after LD’s contract kicks-in……same goes for the Leafs with Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Taveras combo.
But Vegas patches together a team with that big trade-Eichel…and Panthers make two trades…..Rinehart and Tkachuk, and both teams have their rings.
